Community West Credit Union of Kentwood and Tradewinds Credit Union of Comstock Park have announced their intent to merge.
"This partnership provides great opportunities for these two strong, established credit unions," said Jon Looman, President and CEO of Community West Credit Union, in an announcement on Monday, March 6.
"It will allow Community West to extend financial services to more members in West Michigan while enabling Tradewinds Credit Union to provide the convenience of additional branches in Grandville, Hudsonville, Kentwood, Middleville and Rockford."
Community West Credit Union, founded in 1967, has nearly 23,000 members and more than $180 million in assets. Membership is available to persons who live, work, go to school or worship in Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, Ionia or Barry counties.
Tradewinds Credit Union was founded in 1956 by sheet metal workers and named Local 410 Credit Union. In 1961, the name was changed to Grand Rapids Building and Construction Trades Council Credit Union. The name was changed again in 1966 to GR Building Trades Credit Union.
Headquartered at 4555 West River Drive NE, Tradewinds Credit Union has 2,899 members and assets of $19 million. It has 6 full-time employees and is open to all who live, work, go to school or worship or in Kent and Ottawa counties.
